Paper accepted in Information Systems

Our paper, Similarity Joins: Their Implementation and Interactions with Other Database Operators was accepted for publication in the Information Systems journal (Elsevier). This paper is co-authored by Dr. Yasin Silva and undergraduate students Spencer Pearson, Jaime Chon and Ryan Roberts.

Our paper, Index-Based R-S Similarity Joins was accepted at the 7th International Conference on Similarity Search and Applications (SISAP 2014). In this paper, we present a general index-based approach to solve the Similarity Join problem between two relations. We look forward to presenting our work in SISAP 2014.

Dr. Yasin Silva and Spencer were invited - along with other members of the NCUIRE undergraduate research program at ASU west - to participate in an interview about the SimDB project and the NCUIRE program.

Poster presented at New College Open Door @ ASU West Spencer presented a poster entitled Exploiting Database Similarity Joins for Metric Spaces at the New College Open Door @ ASU West event. DBSimJoin presented at VLDB 2012 Dr. Silva and Spencer attended the International Conference on Very Large Databases (VLDB'12) in Istanbul, Turkey to present DBSimJoin (system demonstration). DBSimJoin is our implementation of a Similarity Join operator inside the PostgreSQL database. The article talks about Spencer's participation in this project under ASU West's NCUIRE program. Spencer obtained the VLDB 2012 Travel Fellowship Spencer received the VLDB travel fellowship award. This award will allow him to attend and present at the VLDB’12 Conference in Istanbul, Turkey. We thank the VLDB travel fellowship committee for their support!
